Painters Halifax has been serving Halifax Regional Municipality since 2014, led by an owner who still shows up on site, not a call center or a rotating crew of subcontractors.
Ron Cann started painting houses in 1994. Thirty years later, he still shows up to every job site. Not to check on the crew – to work. That’s the difference between a painting company and a painting business.
Painters Halifax opened in 2014. Before that, Ron spent two decades learning every surface, every product, and every mistake you can make in Halifax weather. Salt air eats paint. Freeze-thaw cracks caulking. Humidity bubbles drywall. You don’t learn that from a manual. You learn it from repainting the same waterfront deck three times until you get it right.
We are a small team. On any given job, you’re working with Ron or someone he’s trained personally. We don’t subcontract. We don’t send a sales guy to quote and a random crew to paint. The person who walks through your door for the estimate is the person who picks up the brush.
Our process is boring because it works. Prep first. Tape second. Paint third. We don’t skip steps to finish faster. We don’t use cheap paint to pad margins. We use Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams because we’ve tested everything else and those two survive Halifax winters.
Painters Halifax was founded in 2014 by Ron Cann, a Halifax native who spent years working as a painter for other companies before deciding to run things his own way. After watching too many jobs get rushed through prep work or handed off to subcontractors nobody had vetted, Ron set out to build something different: a company where the person quoting the job is the same person standing in your kitchen making sure the trim lines are straight.
That approach shaped how the company still operates today. Every quote is fixed and detailed before a paintbrush touches your walls, so there are no surprise charges once the job is underway. Every crew member works directly for Painters Halifax, never a subcontractor, so the people quoting your job are the people painting it. And 40 to 50 percent of every project’s time goes into surface prep, sanding, priming, caulking, and repairing, before any finish coat is applied, because a paint job is only as good as what’s underneath it.
Big painting franchises send a salesperson to quote your job and a different, often subcontracted, crew to do the work. At Painters Halifax, Ron is involved in your project from the first walkthrough to the final inspection.
Cleaning, sanding, patching, caulking, and priming happen before any finish coat goes on. It’s the least visible part of the job and the part that determines whether a paint job lasts two years or ten.
Every project starts with a free, no-obligation on-site assessment and ends with a fixed, written quote, valid for 30 days, with labour, materials, and timeline spelled out. No hourly billing, no surprise fees.
No subcontractors, ever. Every person on your property works directly for Painters Halifax, is background-checked, and is covered under our WCB and $2M liability insurance.
We paint with Benjamin Moore, Sherwin-Williams, and Dulux products, chosen for how they hold up against Halifax’s salt air, humidity, and freeze-thaw cycles, not just for how they look on the day we leave.
